About AMEP

The Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) is an Australian government funded settlement program providing basic English language tuition to help eligible adult migrants settle successfully in Australia. The AMEP has been providing English language instruction to newly arrived migrants in Australia for more than 50 years.

Eligible clients are entitled to up to 510 hours of English tuition, with a further 400 hours available under the Special Preparatory Program for those assessed as having special needs.

English language tuition is provided in classrooms and community settings in more than 200 centres across Australia, including rural and regional areas, and is also available through distance learning programs and the Home Tutor Scheme.

Tuition is provided by teachers trained in teaching English to speakers of other languages using a national curriculum framework, the Certificates I, II and III in Spoken and Written English (CSWE). English tuition is offered in flexible delivery modes as well as classroom learning and can include courses for specific purposes such as vocational training, orientation to the workplace, and access and use of health services.
